Confirmed
A man allegedly made threats inside a Western Australia (WA) minister's electorate office on Wednesday afternoon. The office belongs to Local Government Minister Hannah Beazley, the member for Victoria Park in Perth. Police said "the man was making verbal threats while in possession of what has been described as nunchucks". Nunchucks are two sticks joined by a chain or rope. Officers later found a 56-year-old man in the nearby suburb of Bentley. Police said he is assisting them with their inquiries. No one was injured, police said. Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported the police statement. Ms Beazley said her staff "were faced with a confronting situation". She said a member of the public "entered the office armed with a weapon". "Everyone has the right to go about our lives free from the fear of violence, at work, at home and in the community," she said. The incident comes days after a federal MP was badly hurt outside her office in Victoria. Police have not said whether the man will be charged. That is not yet known.
