Privacy watchdog closes inquiries into court transcript company

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) has published its report.

Confirmed

Australia's privacy watchdog has closed its early inquiries into VIQ Solutions. The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) announced the decision. The OAIC protects people's privacy and personal information. VIQ Solutions provides transcripts, which are written records of court hearings. The OAIC published a report on the matter. The report says three employees of a subcontractor based in India were involved. It also says 93 court matters were affected. Court matters can include very private details about people's lives. That is why privacy rules matter for companies that handle them. The report also looks at how Commonwealth agencies sign contracts with companies like VIQ. Closing the inquiries means the OAIC is not taking further action for now. It is not yet known whether agencies will change how they hire transcript companies.
