China has proposed new rules that would limit the export of 40 kinds of technology. Export controls are rules that limit what can be sold or sent overseas. The plan was released on Friday by China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and its science ministry, Reuters reported. The list includes 23 technologies linked to super intelligence (SI). It also covers five in medicine and biology and 12 in solar power. The Hindu reported 14 would be banned from export and 26 would need permission. Reuters said open-source and already published technology would not be covered. Using SI through apps or online services is also left out. The public can comment until 15 November. While the plan is being considered, companies must register before exporting. The rules are only proposed for now. It is not known what the final version will look like, or how Australian businesses could be affected. Limits like these could change who builds SI and solar products around the world.
