Matthew Deaner steps down as head of Screen Producers Australia after 14 years
The leader of the group that speaks for Australian film and TV makers says it is time for new opportunities.
Confirmed
The head of the group that speaks for Australian film and TV makers is moving on. Matthew Deaner has stepped down as chief executive of Screen Producers Australia (SPA) after 14 years in the job. SPA represents the companies that make Australian TV shows, films and online series. "It has been an enormous privilege to lead SPA," Mr Deaner said, TV Tonight reported. He said "it's time for the next iteration of our organisation and for me to pursue other opportunities." He did not give any other reason. SPA credited him with "increasing the television offset to 30% while protecting the film offset at 40%". An offset is a tax break from the government. It helps pay part of the cost of making shows and films in Australia. More support can mean more local stories on our screens. Zoe Angus is now Acting Executive Director of SPA. It has not been said who will take on the job for good, or when.
