Melbourne Cup draws 2.22 million viewers on Nine

Streaming on 9Now jumped by almost a quarter.

Confirmed

The Melbourne Cup was the most-watched program in the country, according to the ratings. TV Tonight reported that the race drew 2.22 million viewers on Nine. The figure uses VOZ ratings, which count people watching on TV and online. Mediaweek reported that viewing on 9Now, Nine's streaming service, rose 24.6% to 578,000. Mediaweek said it was the race's best VOZ result. The Melbourne Cup is run on the first Tuesday in November at Flemington in Melbourne. It is often called the race that stops the nation. Many people watch it at work, at school or at parties. The jump in streaming shows more people are watching on phones and laptops. Nine holds the rights to show the race. It is not yet known how this year's figures compare with every past year.
