Three in four adults with a high blood pressure reading did not know it, health kiosk data suggests

The figures come from Wesfarmers Health checks at free kiosks, not a national survey. The ACT scored best and Tasmania worst.

Confirmed

Many Australians may have high blood pressure without knowing it. That is what new data from Wesfarmers Health suggests. Its Health Index 2026 is based on free health checks at SiSU Health Station kiosks. The kiosks recorded 585,576 checks by 397,227 Australians over a year. The people who used them chose to, so the results are not a national survey. Wesfarmers Health data show 77 per cent of adults with a high blood pressure reading did not know they had it. That is about three in four. The report also says 10.1 per cent of people checked smoke every day. It says that is almost double recent national estimates. Results were different around the country. The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) had the best score, 122, the report says. Tasmania had the lowest, 86. People in the poorest areas were 2.5 times as likely to have several risks for heart disease and diabetes, it says. Managing director Emily Amos said more needs to be done on prevention and early checks. If you are worried about your blood pressure, talk to your GP.
