Optus says it can now get important data in hours instead of days. Anupam Das, an associate director at the telco, spoke at an event run by tech company Databricks. iTnews reported his comments. He said Optus now moves data from 400 tables in its Oracle systems in "near real-time". A data table is like a big spreadsheet inside a company's computer systems. Das said the most important use is for "our regulatory use cases". That means reports Optus must give to the people who oversee the industry. "This was not possible two years back," Das said. "We had to wait for two or three days. Now it is within hours." iTnews said the system also lets Optus track customer behaviour in its stores in near real time. It said that could lead to product offers based on what people buy. Optus built its data system with Microsoft, Databricks and Tech Mahindra, iTnews said. This report comes from one trade outlet only. Optus has not shared more detail.
