DigiCo signs a 15-year deal for its Sydney data centre, and the AFR reports the customer is Anthropic

DigiCo says the tenant is a "global technology firm" but has not named it.

Confirmed

Australian data centre company DigiCo has signed a 15-year deal for a big part of its SYD1 data centre in Ultimo, Sydney. A data centre is a building full of computers that run online services. DigiCo told the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) on Thursday that the deal is for 71 megawatts (MW) of power. It said the customer is a "global technology firm" that is seen as very likely to pay its bills. The site is now fully booked across 88MW, trade outlet DCD reported. DigiCo has not named the customer. But The Australian Financial Review (AFR) reports it is Anthropic, the super intelligence (SI) company that makes the Claude chatbot. Neither company has confirmed the AFR report. The value of the deal has not been made public. If the report is right, it would be a big bet on running SI systems in Australia. Data centres like this need a lot of power to run their computers.
