BioWare, the studio behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age, is closing
The Electronic Arts (EA) studio says early work on the next Mass Effect game is also ending. It says its focus is on its team.
Confirmed
BioWare, the video game studio behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age, is closing. The studio announced it in a post on its blog. "Now, after more than three decades of shared adventures, BioWare is closing and early development on the next Mass Effect project is ending," it said. That means the next Mass Effect game will not go ahead. "There is nothing easy about writing those words," the studio said. "Our focus right now is on our incredibly talented team." BioWare is owned by Electronic Arts (EA), one of the world's biggest game companies. Over more than 30 years, BioWare made many well-known games. They include Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. It also made Dragon Age, Mass Effect and Anthem. Many of its games let players make choices that change the story. Trade outlets including Variety reported the closure is part of wider job cuts at EA. It is not yet known how many people will lose their jobs. EA has not confirmed numbers in a statement we have seen.
