Australia follow on in second Test as Steve Smith's neck is checked

Australia were all out for 99 and are 4/156, still 170 behind South Africa. Smith did not bat in the second innings.

Confirmed

Australia are fighting to save the second Test in South Africa after a bad day four in Gqeberha. They were bowled out for just 99 in their first innings, cricket.com.au reported. Fast bowler Marco Jansen took five wickets for 33 runs. Australia were 326 runs behind. South Africa asked them to follow on. That means batting again straight away. At stumps, Australia were 4/156, still 170 runs behind. Travis Head was 87 not out. Earlier, Steve Smith became the third Australian to make 11,000 Test runs. Only Allan Border and Ricky Ponting had done it before. But Smith did not bat in the second innings "due to a neck concern", cricket.com.au said. He later wore a neck brace. Coach Andrew McDonald said Smith would bat on day five, AAP reported. How serious the injury is has not been said. Australia lead the series 1-0. Day five starts about 6.45pm AEDT tonight. South Africa need six more wickets to win.
