Point Of Law has won the Geelong Cup in Victoria. The win on Wednesday earns him a "Golden Ticket" into the Melbourne Cup, the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) said. A Golden Ticket is a guaranteed start in the big race. It is the ninth Golden Ticket handed out this year. The Melbourne Cup is worth $10.2 million and is run over 3200 metres. Point Of Law is trained by Ciaron Maher. Jockey Ethan Brown rode him. He beat two horses trained by Joseph O'Brien, Small Fry and Omni Man. They ran second and third. The VRC said the win made Point Of Law the favourite for the Melbourne Cup. Racing.com said it was only his fifth race. "It was another incredible edition of the Geelong Cup," the VRC's Leigh Jordon said. The Geelong Cup is one of the main lead-up races to the Melbourne Cup. The Cup will be run at Flemington on Tuesday 3 November. The full field for the race is not yet known.
