Sydney FC and the Western Sydney Wanderers played out a 0-0 draw at Allianz Stadium on Friday night. It was the first game of the new A-League Men season. The crowd was 30,103, Australian Associated Press (AAP) reported. Both coaches agreed it was not a pretty match. Sydney coach Patrick Kisnorbo said: "It wasn't the prettiest game of football, definitely not." The Wanderers had a blow early. Striker Awan Lual, 19, went off with a left hamstring injury inside the first 10 minutes. Alex Gerbasch also went off late with a hamstring problem. Captain Brandon Borrello was rested with a calf issue. Sydney almost won it in added time, but James Overy's shot was saved by Wanderers goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas. Earlier, Wanderers' Miguel Di Pizio had a chance saved by Sydney's Harrison Devenish-Meares. It is not yet known how bad Lual's injury is. The draw stopped the Wanderers losing a third derby in a row.
