About 19,000 homes and businesses in 70 Victorian towns are set to get full fibre internet

The places now use nbn's fixed wireless network. All of them are expected to be ready to connect by December 2030.

Confirmed

About 19,000 homes and businesses in regional Victoria are set to get faster internet. They are in 70 communities, nbn said in a statement on Thursday. These places will get full fibre, also called Fibre to the Premises (FTTP). That means a fibre cable runs all the way to the home or business. Right now, these places use nbn's Fixed Wireless network. It sends internet through the air from towers. Fibre is usually faster and more reliable. Work has already started in Sebastopol and nearby areas. All the locations are expected to be ready to connect by December 2030, nbn said. Towns on the list include Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Mildura, Traralgon, Warrnambool and Wangaratta. But not every home or business in a named town will get the upgrade, nbn said. The numbers are estimates and may change. Gavin Williams from nbn said good internet now matters in daily life. "Reliable, high-capacity connectivity has become an essential part of everyday life," he said. People who want to know if their address is included can check with nbn.
