An Indian company called eMudhra is leaving the website security business. It makes digital certificates that help prove a website is real. These are called Secure Sockets Layer and Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS) certificates. They also help keep your connection to a website private. Web browsers stopped trusting some of eMudhra's certificates after problems were found, iTnews reported. Now eMudhra says its board has decided to quit the global certificate business. The company says it cancelled the faulty certificates within 14 hours of finding the problem. It says its systems were not hacked. "Its infrastructure was not compromised and no data was breached," the company said. It says this part of its business is only about 1 per cent of its global income. eMudhra says it will help affected customers get new certificates for free from partner companies. Web company Cloudflare has warned that some servers and apps need to be updated by hand. If a website shows a security warning, do not ignore it. It is not yet known how many websites or certificates are affected around the world.
